AREDS2 concerns a particular supplement strategy for people with specific stages of age-related macular degeneration. Ask your eye professional whether it applies to you.
Start with the diagnosis
The National Eye Institute explains that the AREDS research benefited people with intermediate or late AMD; it did not establish prevention of AMD in people without it. This is why the diagnosis and stage matter. [NEI]
If you do not know your diagnosis, a sales page cannot establish it. If you do have a diagnosis, ask the clinician who is managing it to explain the next step.
A formula name is more specific than a category
“Eye supplement” is a broad product category. AREDS2 refers to research with a particular combination and amounts. A longer ingredient list, similar bottle, or added botanical does not by itself establish equivalence.
When comparing a label, use the clinician’s recommendation and the complete research formulation. Do not add several separate products to reproduce selected ingredients without professional guidance.
Questions worth asking
- What stage of AMD, if any, do I have?
- Does the AREDS2 evidence apply to that stage?
- Which exact formulation are you recommending?
- How does it fit with my medicines and other supplements?
- What follow-up and other care are still needed?
What this means for Visiflora
A current readable Visiflora label has not been verified, and we have not established that the product matches AREDS2. Ingredient research cannot fill that gap. Read the product evidence guide for the distinction.
Do not replace an eye professional’s recommended product or treatment based on a shared ingredient name. A nutritional formula also does not replace the rest of a care plan.
